DCSE thorougly understands the GIS data edit/update processes implemented in utility agencies and has identified the tasks in typical edit/update workflows along with the challenges encountered by them. Based on its findings DCSE has developed the XM Tools suite of GIS edit/update tools. The tools address every detail of GIS data maintenance from migrating a CAD drawing to creating atlas maps from enterprise GIS. The tools are highly versatile, and interact and work in coordination with the native environment’s (ArcGIS and AutoCAD) functionalities.
The XMTools suite can perform minor edits (e.g., hydrant, valve, meter assembly replacement) and major edits (e.g., CIP or developer services). Major edits include migration of as-built drawings from CAD format and into enterprise GIS, complete with feature-linked annotation. This module can be used for water, sewer and recycled systems, and is highly configurable. Minor edit tools enable users to perform regular GIS operations such as adding meter assemblies with backflows, and global attribute updates (e.g. changing the project number for all features in a sub-division). The tools have been designed to leverage all possible data available to automatically assign attributes. An example is assigning grid based unique ID automatically using the grid layer. The tools also have quality control built into them. The user has ability to define connectivity and attribute population rules.
The suite also includes the Atlas Tool that creates, and manages facility atlas books. Users can print individual pages or complete atlas set, along with detail drawings.
